Within minutes of the official announcement, San Tropat set his agenda for the rest of the year.
Becoming the first world champion holding all five sanctioning body belts, San Tropat is the only recognized crown not already held. The CCWAA’s belt is now held by the only unbeaten American in the world. The fuse is lit on the most important heavyweight match in a generation.
“I will get all five of the belts,” he said. “It’s not an issue.”
The two sides have postured back and forth about a showdown, but AKA Ken’s promoter, Dubs McKenzie of Sleeper Hold Sports, said after the last fight that it’s now just a question of San Tropat’s desire.
“I think it has to happen in this year,” McKenzie said. “Otherwise we are going to hit some major problems with the politics and the mandatories. It’s just a case of if it happens next or we wrestle (someone else) this year and then San Tropat next year. If they stepped up and were actually serious about the fight and serious about a deal we are more than happy to offer them, it could happen next.” Now that the match has been schedule AKA and Dubs have been unavailable for comment.
The two fighters are 61-0 as pros. As amateurs, Aka Ken was a bronze medalist at the 2008 Summer Special Wrestle Olympics in Beijing, followed by San Tropat’s gold at the 2012 Special Wrestle Olympics in London.
San Tropoat is considered No. 1 in the division by ccwaa.org and the independent PWO World Wrestling Rankings. AKA Ken is labeled No. 2 by both ccwaa.org and PWO.
So, given the excitement generated by the CCWAA’s heavyweight world champion these days, it’s not hard to understand San Tropat's smile these days.
“The CCWAA title has long been a standard of excellence at country club wrestling events nationwide,” San Tropat said. “This title has been very important and is highly valued by the respected wrestlers from virtually every country club I know. I am very excited about being involved in one of the world’s biggest matches, San Tropat vs. AKA Ken for all the belts.”
